Life is tricky. It is difficult to manage our many different responsibilities--wife, mother, friend, sister, daughter, teacher, cook, chef, laundress, to name a few--without finding an outlet. And I have mine. Through happiness or despair, excitement or disappointment, thick or thin, my favorite comfort is always there. Unfortunately, this particular outlet tends to make one thicker rather than thinner. Food has been my one and best coping mechanism.
Now I'm not now, nor do I think I'll ever, want to completely sever that relationship. There is something wonderful about coming home to a yummy smelling home, and celebrating with the people I love while we enjoy our various goodies. However, I think I need to add a little more balance. Perhaps allow other partners to cut in on my ever spiraling waltz now and again. Find other ways to relax and rejuvenate myself so that I can continue to give my best to those that I love each day.
But I confess I'm at a bit of a loss on this subject. Uh...what else is there? Okay, I'm not that bad, but I really do want some ideas. Not expensive ideas (though they have their place) but rather, inexpensive options that can be done on any given evening or nap time when needed.
I'd love some feedback. What are your favorite non-food indulgences?
Oh don't we all struggle with that? I think one of my favorite indulgences would be watching tv or taking a nap. Those probably aren't what you are looking for though huh?
ReplyDeleteMy indulgence would be reading a good book. It doesn't happen very often these days, but when it does I love it. I also like to talk to friends I haven't seen in a long time. Those things usually keep me out of the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteBooks!!! Love me some books!! I could recommend a few!
ReplyDeletePersonally I love to craft or draw or do something artistic. Aren't you a bit of a photographer?
Anyway, I would suggest just hopping on pinterest and try something you've never done before to see if you like it! That's how I got started on hairbows.
Books, TV, crafts, sewing, photography, getting lost in Blogworld, to name a few non-food related outlets. Some of my outlets are more rewarding than others. I will say, I find when I'm busy working on a project I think about food (or the internet/TV viewing) less. . . almost not at all when I'm really engrossed. Ah. . .but I love me some good food! I especially love eating yummy things whilst sitting on the couch watching a favorite movie. Probably not the suggestion you're looking for though. :)
ReplyDeleteI love crafting. I can only do crafts that only take me about an hour, because I get frustrated and give up. I also chat with friends. My biggest indulgence? Diet Coke. So sad and pathetic. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI was given some really nice sewing scissors for Christmas and I can't wait to bust them out. I need to find a really good pinterest craft and go for it.
I think that writing is also a good outlet. I will write out about a dozen blog posts in my head. I love reading your blog, how have I not seen this before?!
We just bought a down comforter (from IKEA, not too outrageously priced) and snuggling under it with a library book in a clean bedroom and with unsweetened tea feels like a revelation of luxury to me.
ReplyDeleteI hear ya on the food, though.
Tetris. . . I know it's nerdy! And Yoga, although I know it's hippie. It just feels so good! And, chewing gum.
ReplyDeleteLove you Meagan!
